Keloid Scards - Your Questions

What are Keloid Scars?

Keloids look like exaggerated scars. A keloid can occur after surgery, after major trauma to the skin and also after minor damage such as, acne spots. It is also possible to develop a keloid even if there has been no obvious damage to the skin at all.
Keloids are shiny and usually feel hard and rubbery. New ones are often red or purple, becoming browner and sometimes paler as they age. Most people with keloids have only one or two however, some people have many especially if they have been caused by acne or chicken pox scars. Apart from causing potential cosmetic problems, these scars tend to be itchy, tender or even painful to the touch.

What skin injuries can cause Keloid Scars?

These are the most common injuries that can lead to the formation of Keloid Scars.

How does the Treatment work?

Treatment is dependent on the size and location of the Keloid. After a consultation with a Doctor, the suitable treatment options will be discussed with you. We use injections of a steroid (Triamcinolone) which is one of the most effective treatments for keloid scars. After your session, keloids usually become flat and the same as the surrounding skin.

The treatment takes just 20-30 minutes.

How many treatments will I need?

The keloid scars are usually gone after 3-6 sessions. The exact amount of sessions required will depend on the extent and the hardness of the keloid.

How soon will I see Results?

Results can be seen within two to three weeks.

Is there any down time?

No

Who performs the treatment?

The treatment will be carried out by our Doctor who specialises in Keloid Scars.
