Dermaroller Therapy
Treatment Description
Dermaroller Therapy can significantly improve the appearance of:
- Acne scars
- Aged and sun damaged skin
- Facial and décolleté lines and wrinkles
- Stretch marks.
Collagen stimulation is achieved by introducing a series of fine, tiny needles into the skin following administration of a topical local anaesthetic to reduce discomfort. The needles are attached to a sterile roller which is used only once and moved over the surface of the skin to create microscopic pin-pricks. These pinpricks create columns of penetration within the papillary dermal layer of the skin where collagen and elastin fibres are located. These minute punctures close over almost immediately as the skin heals. The "damage" to the dermis encourages the body to produce new collagen and elastin which generate new skin cells; the skin becomes thicker, plumper and more youthful.
Although primarily used on the face, this procedure can be carried out anywhere on the body, including troublesome acne areas such as the back, stretch marks on the thighs and abdomen, and on all skin types. Before the treatment a topical anaesthetic is applied to numb the skin, making the procedure comfortable. It normally takes up to 30 minutes for the treatment and a course of 3-4 treatments at 3 month intervals is recommended. The treatment can be used alone or in conjunction with other non surgical skin rejuvenation treatments such as chemical peels.
